Key concepts

There is not shortage of interchangeable terminology in the parking industry. This document details Inugo’s terminology and key concepts.

Transient

Within the inugo system, transient parkers are casual parkers that are not pre-arranged either through a booking, or a permit.

Permitted parkers

A permitted parker is either a parker with a booking, a permit, or a member of a group that has special access and payment settings.

Bookings

Within the inugo system a booking is a form of pre-arranging parking. A booking is similar to a permit, however unlike a permit, there is no application and approval process.A booking can either be for a duration of hours, days or months depending on the booking rate configuration.

Permits

A permit is a right to park that is issued following an application and approval process. Inugo issues digital permits in the permitting system. Permits are usually not public and require an invitation to a parker to apply based on either factors such as being a resident of a building with permit parking or a staff member with corporate parking.

Group Access

A user in a group with special access is configured in the group settings. They do not need a permit or a booking.

Sites

A site is a physical area that a user parks. Sometimes referred to as a location or parking lot. A site has space blocks which have bays.

Space Blocks

A Space block is sometimes referred to as a pool. It is an allocated number of parking spaces on a site. A space block is associated with a group. The group can either be private or public. Space blocks provide you with an ability to segment your site.

Bays

A bay is a parking space that has a number or letter. A bay is able to be assigned to a user. Also know as a parking spot or a stall.

Public

You can configure whether a site, group, space block or rate is public. If one of these entities is public, it means that it is available to users that are not predetermined.  A site that is enabled for  public parking, can still support space blocks that are designated private. The number of publicly available parking spaces is determined by the set up of space blocks.

User

There are two types of users in the Inugo platform. App users and Customer Management Portal users. App users can belong to groups which are configured with their own rules for rates, space blocks and access rights. Customer Management users have permissions that determine what functions they can access in the portal.

Groups

A group is a configuration for a collection of users that are marked as having common characteristics for payment/rates, access and reporting requirements.

Rate

Also known as the parking charge. There are 2 types of rate configurations in the Customer Management Portal, one for transient rates and one for booking rates. Creating a booking rate designates the entire configuration for that booking, not just the chargeable amount.

Accounts

An account is an entity that can manage a space and a group that it is associated with. An account can have an account owner, who can log to the customer management portal to manage the account.

Parking Sessions

A parking session is a a transient parking session with a start and end time, it will have an associated rate (which can be zero).

Sessionless

Sessionless settings are available on a group and a site. If a group is sessionless, it means that they do not require a booking or a transient session to access the site. This means that the group members are non-monetised. If a site is sessionless, it means that it does not require transient sessions or bookings to permit users.

A booking is sessionless, meaning the parker is permitted to enter and exit multiple times within their booking period.

Scan to Pay

Scan to pay is the Inugo web payment option for guest parking. this allows parkers to pay for parking via a website without downloading an app. The parkers scan a QR code on a site and this directs them to the relevant webpage for that location.
